Ouarzazate continues to captivate global travelers by seamlessly blending its rich historical heritage with breathtaking natural oases and deep-rooted traditions. Once a vital crossroads for trans-Saharan caravans, the city has evolved into a premier destination for those seeking both adventure and cultural authenticity.
Now widely recognized as the “Hollywood of Africa,” Ouarzazate leverages its cinematic landscapes and cultural legacy to draw visitors from across the globe. The city is home to landmark sites such as the Taourirt Kasbah and world-renowned film studios—the backdrops for legendary productions including Gladiator, The Mummy, Kingdom of Heaven, and the epic series Game of Thrones. Beyond the silver screen, travelers are drawn to the vibrant local souks and the Ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site that remains a profound source of inspiration for filmmakers and artists alike. The local Cinema Museum further enriches this immersion into the world of the “Seventh Art.”

This multifaceted appeal has sparked a significant surge in tourism. By the end of March 2026, registered accommodations reported 231,165 overnight stays—a 27% increase over the previous year. Total visitor arrivals reached 186,795, marking a 30% jump, while occupancy rates climbed from 47% to 50%. This growth is largely attributed to enhanced aerial connectivity, aggressive promotional campaigns by the Moroccan National Tourism Office, and the diverse regional offerings spanning Ouarzazate, Zagora, and Tinghir.
Despite these gains, industry professionals emphasize that there is still room for improvement. To extend the average length of stay and solidify Ouarzazate’s standing on the international stage, experts are calling for further expansion of flight networks, the reopening of shuttered hotels, and the development of new cultural events and programming.
